3 Things I Love About My Husband

The other day I had a conversation with my 14 year old daughter about guys. I was pretty much paraphrasing what my Mom always told me…and which I have learned through experience to be true.

Watch how a fellow treats his mother. If he disrespects her, he’ll most likely disrespect you.

For the sake of my daughter, I added in sisters, too!

After telling her that, I thought of all of the men I had dated (or been married to-lol!) and confirmed that for the most part, it’s true!

I know there are exceptions…we do live in a Jerry Springer world after all….parents that abuse in one or more ways, parents that have abandoned their children when young and more.

It also brought to mind that being respectful to his mother was one of the things that make me love Ron. He smoked a couple of packs of cigarettes a day from he time he was a teen until he was around 35 years old. But not ONCE did he light up in front of his mother- even as an adult! He says he just felt like it was disrespectful. He was always kind and considerate to his mother.

She passed away in June of this past year. But she died knowing she was respected by her youngest son.

And guess what? Ron respects me.

I never have to worry about him calling me names or hitting me.

The second thing I love about my husband is that he is a hard worker. He is a big-rig fixer-upper works on – call only…24/7.

Taking 2 seconds off for a cup of coffee!

Whether it’s 3 a.m. or 3 p.m., if his phone rings he’s out the door.

He’s almost comical when the phone rings. He literally flies out of the bed, into the master bath (his night time office-lol!) and writes down the truck information and location of the breakdown. Then he runs outside to start the work van and is back like a flash to throw his clothes on. A kiss good-bye and he’s gone.

And it’s only been about 4 minutes since his phone rang. He would make a great fireman!

One time I asked him why he doesn’t slow down a bit. The driver can wait 5 or 10 minutes more.

His answer? Sometimes they are sitting on the side of the road with no heat or lights. It might be a half hour to an hour until he gets to them as it is. He doesn’t feel right knowing they might be freezing while he’s dilly- dallying around.

And time is money for these drivers. He doesn’t want to be the cause of them losing more time, thus more income.

He’s so sweet!

The third thing I love about Ron is his quick wit…as long as it’s not directed at me!

ANYONE who knows him will agree…he’s quick. It seems like no matter what you say, he can come up with some wise-acre comment.

I am truly in awe of it… : – ) sometimes I ask him if he heard that comment somewhere or did he just make it up?

Often he made it up on the spot!

He even cleans in a pinch!

His humerous side!

His favorite ride!

My hubby is unique to say the least…

Winter Revisits Central New York

Snow morning of January 30, 2012

Winter decided to revisit Central New York Sunday night into Monday. It was snowing like crazy, even the plows couldn’t keep up. All in all I bet we had about 3 feet altogether.

After a while, you just quit measuring. You’re too busy shoveling the sidewalks, roof raking the roofs (and we have several) and possibly even shoveling at least part of the driveway.

We do have a tractor with a plow, but it’s finicky ( according to Ron). If Ron is out on a road call, the driveway doesn’t get plowed.

I think Ron just doesn’t want to share his toys…..

We have a pretty big driveway- we could probably park 12 cars in it. We have to shovel at least enough from the road up so that Ron and I can get our vehicles in. Ron plows when he gets home. You would think with all the people living here, Ron would let someone else plow.

Regardless, we don’t let a few feet of snow stop us!

Schools were closed, of course. As soon as I could get out of the driveway, I took my daughter to her friends house then continued on to the convenience store to pick up a few items.

Hey, we NEEDED coffee!

Holey Moses, it was BAD out there. I had to plow through about a foot of snow going down the road! Ron had a road call to a town about 8 miles from here. He has a HUGE service van and he was pushing several feet of snow with it down a city street!

What should have taken about half an hour tops took me about an hour.

Last week was high winds and this….

2 holes later, we're waiting for insurance to decide if they should just replace the whole thing!

Yesterday was almost 50 and today was 52 when we woke up. And it’s raining….

Go figure….

Central New York…if you don’t like the weather, wait 10 minutes!

Funny kid stuff

The weeks since our wedding have been a trial for sure! The addition of two little ones, aged 2 and 5 make for quite a lively household.

Contrary to what many may think, Ron & I are really enjoying the children. They just come out with some of the funniest stuff.

The 5 year old, “Big Brother”, is quite smart. He doesn’t sit around watching TV all day, but when he does, his momma only let’s him watch “educational” cartoons. Very smart lady.

Back when they had their apartment, he soaked up quite a bit of Bill Nye the Science guy videos. To hear the kid talk about gravity, or the solar system..it’s like WOW!

The other night we started talking about school. Big Brother recently turned 5 and should be going to school this fall. But he DOES NOT want to go!

He has said in the past that he’d be terrified by the teacher.

Not sure why he thinks he’d be terrified of a teacher…

But we did have an amusing conversation the other night.

He said, “I want you to teach me!”

I said, ” You mean like home schooling? I would LOVE to homeschool with you. I’m sure you could teach me alot!”

He just stopped in his tracks, gave me a wondering kind of look and said, “No, YOU teach ME!”

I remarked back, “I’m afraid YOU could probably teach ME quite a bit!”

Then Big Brother gets another G-R-E-A-T idea!

He can teach Little brother everything we teach him!

I continued it by saying that Little Brother can teach baby sister (still in Mama’s belly).

Big Brother said, “No, I’ll teach my baby sister and she can teach Little Brother.”

I tried to explain that Little Brother should teach Baby Sister since he will be older.

Big Brother insists that Baby Sister should teach Little Brother.

Must be he doesn’t think Little Brother is too bright and needs more time….

Little Brother is a good worker!

This morning I was folding towels and wash clothes at the kitchen table while talking to the kids.

Little Brother (just over 2) grabbed a wash cloth. I figured I would turn this into a learning experience and make the kid happy at the same time.

So I started teaching him how to fold the wash cloth in 1/2, smooth it out, then fold in 1/2 again.

He did it several times and did it very well.

Do you think he would show anyone else?

NO!

He started balling it up, then flattened it back out and started folding it in thirds and such.

If you ask me, the kid is pretty smart. He chooses what he will reveal of himself to others!

All in all, I would say the adult children need to get a life and move on.

The little kids can stay….for a while!

Weird and weirder….

It’s been a kind of weird week around here this past week. Some of the stuff is weird, some may just be coincidence. Check it out and let me know what you think.

When you hear a thump in the night….

Don’t assume that your buddies are trying to scare you by whipping snowballs at your house….

Oh no…..

This was exactly what my neighbor thought the other night when he heard 5-6 thumps on the side of his house while he and a friend were watching a movie. They jumped up and ran outside but no one was there.

The next day, my neighbor was outside and found 5 or 6 dead black birds next to the side of his house. Apparently they had been flying and crashed into his house!

Is that weird or what?

The New Road Kill: Squirrels?

My daughter and I were returning home from church yesterday and saw
a dead squirrel lying in the middle of the road. That is totally unusual. For
some reason, squirrels always seem to escape getting hit.

Wouldn’t you know it, a mile and a half down the road we see ANOTHER dead squirrel?

Very weird…..

Just coincidence?

The other day I was using a sharp knife to do something and I stabbed my hand at the base of my thumb, near my palm. I don’t even know if stabbed is the word for it-maybe poked- because it just barely left a mark and didn’t bleed.

Later my daughter told me she accidently stabbed herself with her pencil while at school. She showed me the mark- it was in the exact spot mine was! Same hand, too!

A day or so later I was again driving, but this time with my son. We were discussing what we should have for dinner. I was in the mood for a Steak sub with onions, peppers and cheese.

I wasn’t sure yet how many of our 9 or 10 (or was it 12???) household members would be there for dinner so I decided to wait to find out before making a decision.

No this is not us but it very well could be...there's alot of us here right now but that is another post...lol!

Later Ron returned home. I asked what he wanted for dinner. He said he couldn’t even think about food right then.

He was stuffed from the Philly Cheese Steak sub he had for lunch!

Darn it! That ruled out my plans

Hot Debate..Marriage or not?

As many of you know, I just got married after 13 years of being with my man. I have to admit, it’s different. I thought I would feel the same way for my husband, but I don’t.

I just feel so much more love for him. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I now feel respected? Really loved? I don’t know.

And I can tell by the way my husband acts that he feels the same. He’s just more tender and loving, more helpful.

We are almost kind of silly (at least judging by the kids eyerolls!)…like teens newly in love!

I feel so much closer to God, too. As much as we don’t want to believe it, when we sin we essentially put a barrier between God & ourselves. I knew for the past 13 years that I was living in sin, and yes it did bother me. But I denied it. Even to myself.

But God kept tugging at my heart, telling me to get back to church. I did and here I am today a married woman!

What spurred this post is that a few days after I was married, I got an email from Circle of Mom’s, asking my opinion on a question someone had…..

The question?

Q:	Marriage: just a contract?

For some moms, marriage is an absolute requirement, but others have learned to live without it, and others don’t see what the big deal is at all. What is marriage to you? A prerequisite to parenting or no big deal?

Another successful Christmas!

Yesterday was a great day or family and friends. We had all the usuals…all of our kids and their kids, except Little Man who went back to his momma’s to see everyone there. My nephew, his wife and two kids stopped by for a few hours, then a smattering of friends here and there.

We ate like hogs! We had meatballs, little weiners in sauce, pumpkin roll, crackers & cheese, deviled eggs, chips, dips, cookies and probably more that I don’t remember.

That was just the beginning! Dinner was turkey and all the fixings. I must admit I could barely eat any more by then!

Ron & I said we weren’t going to buy each other gifts this Christmas as we spent enough to get married…we are each others gift to each other-lol!

I did get him a wallet for our one week anniversary, which fell on Christmas. I had it inscribed with “Happy 1 week anniversary”. Then I also got a snowman & snowwoman ornament and had it inscribed with “Our first “married” Christmas. Sounds weird now that I look at it, but anything else was too long- all the words wouldn’t have fit.

He got me a beautiful necklace and some fuzzy slippers (yeah! No more cold feet!). The best present was him helping me get ready for everyone by vacuuming and other stuff like that.

Somehow over the holidays we gained a few extra members to our household (these kids need to get a life!) so I am all out of sorts and seriously trying to get back into my routine.

Now I find out that my stepsons GF just left to go get her two kids that were staying with her sister until they got another place. Apparently the sister and bf are fighting about the kids being there. Can’t blame the BF…the kids seems to live with them more often than not. So now I guess we can add two more to our household!

I think it’s seriously time for a family meeting!
